What Happens After a Chemical Peel?

For many people looking to improve the look of their skin, a chemical peel is something that is investigated. But, what happens after a chemical peel? Before we look at what you can do, I'll provide some basic information on what happens during a peel.

You can get this procedure done in a clinic by a professional or there are some do it yourself kits available as well. The at home kits are not as potent as the professionally done procedures.

A chemical peel is applied to the face with a brush. It goes to work at removing dead skin cells so that new fresher looking skin can replace it.

By removing the dead cells and allowing new skin cells to develop, your face should look and feel more youthful a week or so after this procedure.

Keep in mind that depending on the strength of the chemical used in the peel, you could experience skin that is quite pink and sensitive for awhile. The feeling has been described as having sunburn on your face as the skin feels tight and will peel for a few days after the peel.

While the skin is peeling, apply a natural moisturizer to help prevent your skin from drying out. But what should you do afterwards? For one thing, keep applying the moisturizer. A good natural moisturizer is good after a chemical peel or at any time for that matter,.

Another thing you can do to prolong the effects of the peel is to use a good natural eye cream on a regular basis as well. This is because the skin around the eyes is the thinnest skin on your face and it shows age sooner than any other area, thus it makes sense to pay special attention to this area.

Should You Use Sunblock?

First of all, right after the peel you should be avoiding the sun because your skin will be too sensitive. However, afterwards you should be using a good sun screen to help protect your skin from the harmful UV rays. You don't want to waste the effects of the peel either.

Now, why use a natural moisturizer as opposed to a regular brand name chemical based product? Chemical based products are just not as safe as a good natural cream. You might as well follow up after the chemical peel by using an effective natural moisturizer otherwise it won't be long before your skin has reverted back to its before peel look.
