The Deal on Chemical Peels

A chemical peel can improve the feel and appearance of a person's skin. Many clients are drawn to this treatment because of the outstanding results that they achieve. A spa therapist should understand everything about a chemical peel, including both its advantages and disadvantages, so they are able to answer any questions that a client may have. Spa therapists should always describe any issues that can be followed after the peel, such as redness or sensitivity.

There are many skin conditions that a chemical peel can be used for with proven results. Such improvements can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, help diminish mild scars, treat some types of acne, lessen age spots and freckles and improve the overall appearance of skin.

It is up to the spa therapist to determine whether or not a client would be a good candidate for a chemical peel. If they have certain skin problems or irritations, then it may not be the suitable treatment for them and a spa therapist should explain that to the client. You should always be looking at your client's best interest, so if you feel a chemical treatment is not suitable for them, let them know.

Always remember to ask the client if he or she is on any medications. There are certain medications that can have a strange effect on the skin if taken during and after the chemical peel, so you should always discuss that first with your client. You should also ask your client to discuss any skin issues such as abnormal scarring trends or cold sores.

All therapists should also explain to their clients that it is essential to stay out of the sun right after a chemical peel since the skin is extremely delicate after the treatment. It is best to thoroughly explain all this information to your client before the peel so that they know what the complications and after results are.
